What is black tea?
The teas, such as green tea, oolong tea, white tea, yellow tea, and even black tea are produced from the same plant. Not any of these are herbal teas as these are made from Camellia sinensis plant. Since all these teas are prepared in a different way and undergo a different level of oxidation, so the taste, flavor and nutrient contents also vary.
Black tea is prepared in two ways – orthodox way and CTC way. In an orthodox way, the harvested leaves are first withered, and then rolled. The withering removes the water content from the fresh leaves and rolling retains the juices of the tea leaves. After this, the leaves are oxidized completely and then dried to prepare the black tea.
The second one is CTC (Crush, Tear, and Curl) method in which no rolling of leaves is done. Here with the help of a rotor-vane machine, the leaves are cut and curled without involving the rolling of leaves step.
Interestingly, black tea for cholesterol is considered good and can be quite helpful for those who have mild hypercholesterolemic. All types of tea are good for your health and black tea is one of them. It contains amino acids, polyphenols, tannins, caffeine, minerals, and vitamins that offer you many health benefits. Many studies have shown that with the intake of black tea you can lower the risk of cardiovascular disease. In case, you have anemia then never take black tea with your meals as the caffeine present in it can create a problem in the absorption of iron.
